Mitigating high axial and lateral loads with rapid installation and reduced on-deck assembly time

Our latest floating wind innovation sees the introduction of the Balmoral T-CLAMP solution. The tether clamp is designed to secure subsea lines to an anchor on the seabed. The clamp incorporates a swivel design which allows 360-degree rotation, thereby mitigating high axial and lateral loads on the cable.

Utilising Balmoral’s 40+ year track record of clamping solution experience, the Balmoral T-CLAMP allows installation and on-deck assembly times to be slashed, offering huge savings in offshore installation costs.

The clamp comprises interchangeable modular segments meaning the assembly can accommodate additional units to resist increased loading if required.

How does it work?

The Balmoral T-CLAMP is designed to secure a cable to an anchor on the seabed. Once the anchor is positioned the tether clamp can be deployed and attached. The tether clamp features a swivelling shackle padeye and the tether line, which is already attached to the seabed anchor, connects directly to the padeye to maintain the cable position.

The swivelling shackle allows 360-degrees of free movement significantly reducing the out of plane loading on the padeye. The movement of the shackle, continually repositioning to be in line with the direction of tether tension, reduces axial and lateral loading on the cables.

J-tube seals are used to provide sealing and corrosion protection between flexible umbilicals, cables or pipes and the so-called J- or I-tubes found on offshore installations in the oil & gas and renewable energy sectors.

Balmoral provides diverless and diver-installed seals that are available in a range of sizes for pre- or retrofitting; all manufactured in accordance to API 17L standards.

Additionally, centralisers can be specified to maintain the cable position within a J-tube while bend restrictors or stiffeners can assist with positioning and stability.

A typical J-tube seal comprises three key components:

  • The clamp
  • The seal
  • The nose
