Crossing / crossover solution for protecting subsea cables and pipelines

Balmoral’s crossing protection system is designed to provide protection and separation between new cables or pipelines and existing cables in a subsea environment. The lightweight and modular system provides a cost-effective solution through optimised design methods, an ongoing development programme and the use of multiple rigid PU grades.

Accredited by Bureau Veritas to API 17L standards, and tailored to meet or exceed customer requirements, the system acts as a thermal barrier that provides protection to the cable while acting as a visual indicator of the crossing locations in subsea fields.

The system is designed to articulate, rotate freely and conform over any third party assets to mitigate damage.

How does it work?

The system comprises a string of hollow cable separators that are clamped to the cable. Transition pieces are located at either end of the cable separator that connect to the impact and abrasion solution – Balmoral DURAGUARD®.

DURAGUARD provides cost-effective protection and is supplied as pairs of interlocking half shells secured around the core product using circumferential straps. The crossing protection system has the capacity to be rock dumped, allowing the cables to maintain their desired location.

The cable separator is located over existing cables which may be in an unburied environment.
