The people and processes behind our offshore wind CPS
People, we are frequently told, are a company’s greatest asset. Well, here at Balmoral that is definitely the case.
As an independent company, we invest heavily in a continuous education and training programme. Our in-house academy covers project management, leadership and succession planning as well as ‘on the job’ skills.
This has allowed us to develop groups of highly talented and motivated individuals across the board from materials and product R&D, through engineering design, production and testing.
Our product and materials research and development teams play a key role in taking new and innovative solutions to market – our patented offshore wind cable protection system (CPS) being a prime example of this.
Dr Aneel Gill, product R&D manager, explains: “Clients recognise us as innovators, a reputation that has been cultured over the decades through the development of many ‘firsts’ for the offshore energy sector.
“Our fully integrated CPS is a good example of the thoroughness of our processes.
“We emphatically stress the importance of using first-hand test data. Every piece of product data that we provide is comprehensively authenticated by our in-house experts ensuring clients receive information that is directly related to their project and not third-party generated.”
As a project progresses through the design, production and testing phases it is closely monitored by our project management team, headed up by Fraser Reid.
Fraser and his colleagues manage all projects using state-of-the-art APM-recognised software and share this information regularly with clients.
“Communication is key”, says Fraser: “We understand client requirements for regular project updates. That’s why we operate with full transparency, providing clients with comprehensive feedback directly from our system.
“This is on top of facility visits that project teams are encouraged to make, prevailing circumstances allowing, as this gives them the opportunity to see first hand how their products are manufactured and meet the people responsible for them.”
Operating a comprehensive in-house test facility, our rig is designed to replicate real-life cable installation scenarios for both monopile and J-tube installations and is used to endorse and validate proposed solutions.
Balmoral’s end to end cable protection solutions, including testing, provide project-life peace of mind says Ian Milne, sales manager – renewables.
“We provide something different in the market by offering evidence-based design, materials, production and testing advice on proprietary patented solutions for both fixed and floating wind installations.
“With 40 years of offshore energy experience behind every decision we take, clients can be confident that they are working with the most knowledgeable team in the market.”
