Tidal wave project benefits from engineered VIV cable protection solution
Balmoral’s patented Duraguard LDV system was recently deployed to help a tidal wave project overcome a major challenge.
Cable protection had been identified as a requirement but the operating environment was also renowned for its strong currents and resultant vortex induced vibration (VIV) conditions.
Although Duraguard LDV is traditionally used on drilling modules to provide protection and VIV mitigation, on this occasion the principle was applied to suit a smaller diameter cable.
This unique solution, developed by the Balmoral Discovery Unit in anticipation of such requirements, combines Balmoral’s proven cable protection and VIV mitigation technologies to provide clients with an integrated VIV suppression cable protection systemWe believe this is a great example of how collaboration and lateral thinking can not only provide the ultimate engineering solution but can significantly drive down project capex.
